Page 2 RRR 12 - 2005 1 Introduction
Fairness is an inherent and fundamental factor of queue service disciplines in a large variety of queueing applications. Service time variability across jobs is an important factor affecting both system performance and scheduling rules (for example, computer systems that prioritize short jobs over long jobs). Service time variability and its effects on mean response times have been studied exte...
متن کامل8 - 1 - 2006 Excited 0 + , T = 2 States in 12 Be , 12 C , and 12
We present predictions of a relatively simple model of the low-lying 0+ states in 12Be, their predicted energy splitting in 12O, their cross-section ratios in 10Be(t,p) and 14C(p, t) and their decay widths. Comparison is made with predictions using earlier wave functions of Barker. Disciplines Physical Sciences and Mathematics | Physics Comments Suggested Citation: Fortune, H.T. and Sherr, R. (...

We investigate the quantization of games in which the players can access to a continuous set of classical strategies, making use of continuous-variable quantum systems. For the particular case of the Cournot’s Duopoly, we find that, even though the two players both act as “selfishly” in the quantum game as they do in the classical game, they are found to virtually cooperate due to the quantum e...

Electro-optical feedback has many features in common with optical nonlinearities and hence is relevant to the generation of squeezing. First, I discuss theoretical and experimental results for traveling-wave feedback, emphasizing how the " in-loop " squeezing (also known as " squashing ") differs from free squeezing. Although such feedback, based on ordinary (demolition) photodetection cannot c...
متن کاملOn the Exponential Diophantine Equation ( 12 m 2 + 1 ) x + ( 13 m 2 − 1 )
Let m be a positive integer. Then we show that the exponential Diophantine equation (12m2 + 1)x + (13m2 − 1)y = (5m)z has only the positive integer solution (x, y, z) = (1, 1, 2) under some conditions. The proof is based on elementary methods and Baker’s method. Mathematics Subject Classification: 11D61
